KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 13 – Bukit Aman Special Branch on Tuesday revealed there were at least eight Malaysian children recruited and trained as Islamic State (IS) militant fighters in the camps in Syria and Iraq. Its director, Datuk Seri Mohamad Fuzi Mohd Harun said even though police did not have the complete information on the matter, police investigations found the children were being trained at the camps.

“The children will be placed at the IS children centre to be groomed and trained as IS fighters. They were brought to the war-torn countries by both parents who joined IS,” he told the reporters after attending the Bukit Aman monthly assembly here on Tuesday.

Subsequently, Mohamad Fuzi also revealed the latest statistics showed 47 Malaysians were now involved with IS militants in Syria and Iraq. In the meantime, he said of the total, 12 were women while the remaining number were men including the eight children.

“For the time being, 17 individuals were reported killed as suicide bombers while a member of the group who returned to Malaysia was charged in court. Police were monitoring their movements for fear they might spread their ideology when they returned to the country,” said Mohamad Fuzi.
