PUTRAJAYA, March 1 – Former Prime Minister and UMNO President Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s decision to leave the party will not affect UMNO, according to UMNO Secretary-General Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor. Asked whether Dr Mahathir’s decision to quit the party would bring about negative impact to UMNO, Tengku Adnan said no. He said each month they still recorded an increase in the number of UMNO membership.
Tengku Adnan, who is also Federal Territories, however, said he had yet to receive the quit note from Dr Mahathir following the announcement yesterday. Tengku Adnan was met after meeting with 12 members of Parliament from Kuala Lumpur, Labuan and Putrajaya, as well as representatives from various agencies under the Federal Territories Ministry here today.
He said the meeting which lasted over two hours touched, among others, on housing issues and illegal racing among daredevil motorcyclists. He said he want the problem (of illegal racing) be solved via root cause analysis. He said they know there is still a syndicate using these motorcyclists for gambling purposes.
