KUALA LUMPUR, March 2 – Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi is confident that former UMNO deputy president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin will continue to be with the party despite being suspended of his post. He said based on the spirit of Muhyiddin for the party when he was the deputy president, he was confident the former deputy prime minister would love the party and would continue to struggle for UMNO.
“Tan Sri Muhyiddin may no longer be UMNO deputy president, but he is still the head of the Pagoh UMNO division and his membership was not affected based on the decision of the UMNO Supreme Council last Friday. I refer to his earlier speeches that he is indeed a die-hard UMNO member, meaning he will continue to love UMNO and as a die-hard member, he will continue to be with us,” he said.
Ahmad Zahid, who is also an UMNO vice-president and is discharging the duties of the deputy president in the wake of Muhyiddin’s suspension, told this to reporters after opening the 2016 Civil Servants Housing Convention organised jointly by the Congress of Unions of Employees in the Public and Civil Services (CUEPACS) and Angkatan Koperasi Kebangsaan (ANGKASA) here today.
Ahmad Zahid was commenting on plans by Muhyiddin to hold a press conference in Damansara here tomorrow. He said Muhyiddin also should make a decision which puts party above self. In any decision made, he said it should be in the interest of the party even though the person may be unhappy and angry. Last Friday, UMNO’s Supreme Council unanimously suspended Muhyiddin from the deputy president post with immediate effect until the next party election.
