TEMERLOH, March 12 – Pahang Wanita UMNO has criticised the move by former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad to join the opposition and attempt to topple the government. Its chief, Datuk Roslin Abdul Rahman, said the initiative ignored the laws and went contrary to the Federal Constitution.
“The declaration signed by Dr Mahathir was also contrary to the principles of the party that had been championed by the former prime minister. Pahang Wanita UMNO is with State UMNO Liaison Committee chairman Datuk Seri Adnan Yaakob in expressing full support for the leadership of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak,” she said.
Roslin spoke at a press conference at the Temerloh UMNO Division office. It was also attended by other Pahang Wanita UMNO leaders. Also present were Pahang UMNO Liaison Committee deputy chief and Temerloh UMNO Division head Datuk Seri Mohd Sharkar Shamsuddin and Wanita UMNO Information chief Datuk Rosni Zahari.
Mohd Sharkar suggested that Dr Mahathir, former UMNO deputy president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and other UMNO leaders who had signed the Mahathir declaration to return to the spirit of the UMNO struggle. He said their action (in signing the declaration) is most regrettable, and the opposition is seen as attempting to topple the government through undemocratic means. He said this can spark chaos and undermine national security, and those involved must be severaly penalised.
