Summary
- Developer given seven days to submit landslide mitigation plan.
- Stop-work order remains in force at Paya Terubong condominium project.
- State government says developer must take responsibility for site safety.
GEORGE TOWN, October 27 — Penang authorities have given a condominium developer seven days to submit a mitigation plan following a landslide that killed 73-year-old doctor Wong Kar Lin in Paya Terubong.
Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow said the Penang Island City Council (MBPP) had issued an immediate stop-work order and demanded urgent slope stabilisation measures.
Preliminary findings indicated the collapse occurred on developer-owned land where stabilisation works remained incomplete, with heavy rainfall suspected as a contributing factor.
Chow said the developer must take responsibility for site safety, while MBPP is expected to submit its investigation report within two days.
