GEORGE TOWN, October 30 — Penang International Airport is undergoing a RM1.55 billion expansion project aimed at increasing its annual passenger capacity to 12 million.
According to the state’s 2027 budget presentation. The airport recorded 5,427,535 passenger movements as of August 2026, an increase of 208,982 passengers, or 4%.
Its network includes 278 weekly domestic flights and international connections to 21 cities, with new routes to Batam, Indonesia, and Haikou, China.
The expansion is expected to support Penang’s growing tourism industry and improve regional connectivity.
