GEORGE TOWN, November 2 — Penang has requested a RM2 billion federal grant to support the Perak-Penang Water Project, which includes infrastructure estimated to cost RM3.5 billion.

Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow said the request followed a conditional bulk water supply agreement between the Penang Water Supply Corporation and Perak’s Prasarana Air dan Irigasi Perak Sdn Bhd.

The proposed federal funding would support treated-water infrastructure and distribution systems under the project.

The budget speech did not specify whether the federal government had approved the request or provide a completion timeline.
