KUALA LUMPUR, November 7 — Malaysia’s King, Sultan Ibrahim, said the conditional pardon allowing former Prime Minister Najib Razak to serve his remaining prison sentence under house arrest was clear and unambiguous.
In a statement issued by Istana Negara, the King said the September 18 decision required Najib to pay a RM50 million fine. He stressed that the pardon was unrelated to Najib’s other cases.
And should not face prolonged uncertainty over its interpretation. Sultan Ibrahim said the royal prerogative under Article 42 of the Federal Constitution must be respected.
Warning that questioning the order could undermine royal authority. The King emphasised that the decision followed deliberations by the Federal Territories Pardons Board.
Which reviewed Najib’s petition before submitting its recommendations. He further stated that all conditions stipulated under the conditional pardon had been fulfilled.
And that continued challenges to its implementation could be seen as disregarding the royal order.
