KUALA LUMPUR, November 7 — Malaysia’s Attorney General’s Chambers (AGC) has denied challenging the King’s conditional pardon for former Prime Minister Najib Razak.
Saying its concerns involve the legal interpretation of a court order issued after his RM50 million fine was paid. The AGC said clarification was necessary to determine whether the November 6 discharge order.
Allowed Najib to continue serving his SRC International sentence under house arrest or legally ended that sentence. It warned that the interpretation could affect when Najib’s separate 1MDB prison sentence begins.
The AGC maintained that seeking judicial clarification did not undermine royal authority, stressing that the courts must resolve the legal questions to ensure lawful implementation.
The department also rejected allegations that its actions amounted to interference with the King’s constitutional powers, saying urgent judicial determination was necessary to protect the rights of all parties.
The AGC emphasised that the matter should be resolved through proper judicial proceedings to prevent conflicting interpretations and ensure compliance with existing court orders.
