KUALA LUMPUR, March 3 – The process of law has been completed and Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) adviser Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim should serve his time and respect the law of the country, said socio-cultural adviser to the government, Tan Sri Dr Rais Yatim.

He said the Federal Court had already made a decision and found Anwar guilty (of committing sodomy). “If Anwar is seeking a royal pardon, it is a non-legal issue and it is now the prerogative of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong to listen to the petition,” he said. “He should serve his time and should respect the law of the country. How can you come out now and expect others to follow your example when you yourself do not respect the system in which you have submitted yourself?”

Rais was speaking to reporters, here, today after announcing the Muzika Nusantara Concert, to be held at Istana Budaya on March 13 and 14. Rais was asked on the application made by PKR to Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Pandikar Amin Mulia to allow Anwar, who is also the MP for Pematang Pauh, to attend the Dewan Rakyat sitting.

The Federal Court had on Feb 10, found Anwar guilty of sodomy and upheld a Court of Appeal decision to sentence him to five years’ jail. Rais also advised Malayians to realise that “the law is the law and do not mix it with political sympathy”.
