IPOH, May 4 – Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah has described the book, “Hikayat Misa Melayu”, as a great work in the history of the Perak sultanate and a literary treasure left by Raja Muda Raja Chulan who wrote it in the 18th century. The Perak Sultan said this when launching the published book Monday at the Collection of Photographs Exhibition at the Ipoh Town Hall, here, held in conjunction with the enthronement of the Sultan of Perak XXXV.

“I chose to launch this Hikayat (book of legend) in conjunction with the enthronement of the Sultan of Perak XXXV, based on the essence of the Hikayat which narrates the ancestry, rules and customs of the Perak royal rulers and government,” he said. At the event, Sultan Nazrin Shah also launched the first day cover stamps in conjunction with the enthronement.

Also gracing the occasion were Raja Permaisuri Perak Tuanku Zara Salim, Raja Muda Perak Raja Jaafar Raja Muda Musa and his consort Raja Puan Besar Perak Raja Nor Mahani Raja Shahar Shah, Raja Di-Hilir Perak Raja Iskandar Dzulkarnain Sultan Idris and his consort Raja Puan Muda Perak Tunku Soraya Sultan Abdul Halim.

Communications and Multimedia Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Shabery Cheek, Perak Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir, Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) chairman Datuk Abdul Rahman Sulaiman, its general manager Datuk Zulkefli Salleh and editor-in-chief Datuk Zakaria Abdul Wahab were also present.

Sultan Nazrin Shah expressed his appreciation for Yayasan Karyawan and RNS Publications for collaborating in publishing the book in recognition of Raja Chulan’s invaluable contribution. “Hopefully, this book will be read, particularly by today’s young generation, in charting a more brilliant future,” the Sultan said.

Raja Nazrin Shah also thanked the state government, Communications and Multimedia Ministry, Bernama and the Information Department for their joint effort in organising the exhibition, as well as Pos Malaysia for issuing the first day cover stamps in conjunction with the enthronement.
