BEAUFORT, Nov 9 – The Women, Family and Community Ministry (KPWKM) deputy minister Datuk Azizah Mohd Dun said that the KPWKM is planning to build a Senior Citizens’ Activity Centre (PAWE) in all 222 parliamentary constituencies in the country.

“The ministry would also prepare the allocation for the maintenance and administrative operations of PAWE in the constituencies. However, the parliamentary constituencies must find a place, such as a building or an idle government house that can be repaired, which we can turned into the centre,” she told reporters after opening the Beaufort parliamentary constituency Senior Citizens and Children Day celebration here on Sunday.

Forty-five PAWEs had already been built across the country, including one in Labuan, since 2007. Meanwhile, Azizah also said that this year alone, five PAWEs were built, namely in Tanah Merah, Kelantan; Pasir Gudang, Johor; Port Dickson, Negeri Sembilan and Beaufort, Sabah.

PAWE is a recreational centre built to enable senior citizens to carry out their activities in line with the aspiration to ensure that they would remain healthy, active and productive. Various activities and programmes are available at the centre, including religious classes, recreational activity, therapy and rehabilitation, health examination and talks, as well as training and courses deemed suitable for senior citizens.
