KUALA LUMPUR, February 24 – Households with an income of less than RM2,500 are eligible to receive a donation of up to RM2,500 depending on the number of children through the Sumbangan Tunai Rahmah (STR) program. The Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said, several reforms were taken into account to ensure that the people who were really affected benefited under the program. The government has channeled cash donations to the B40 group under the Sumbangan Tunai Rahmah(STR) Phase 1 program.
Several reforms are being taken into account so that households that are really affected benefit more from STR. Among them, households with an income of less than RM2,500 are eligible to receive a donation of up to RM2,500 depending on the number of children. The government will also give an additional contribution of RM600 to the poorest STR recipient households according to e-Kasih data.
Anwar added that the donation will be channeled in the form of food baskets and also in the form of vouchers for basic food items worth RM600 to them. He said, it means families in the extreme poor group are eligible to receive donations up to a maximum of RM3,100. Overall, STR will help ease the burden of living for almost 8.7 million beneficiaries with an allocation of almost RM8 billion,” he said.
Anwar explained that even though STR is linked as aid to B40, it also takes into account the number of recipients and in fact the donation has benefited more than 60 percent of the country’s adults. Meanwhile, Anwar also announced that the government will offer e-Tunai Belia Rahmah credit to the youth. Last but not least, to 2 million youth aged 18 to 20 years, the government will offer e-Tunai Belia Rahmah credit amounting to RM200 with an allocation of RM400 million,” he explained.
