PORT DICKSON, September 2 – In a significant move towards promoting sustainable tourism practices, Tourism Malaysia has ventured into turtle conservation efforts at the pristine beaches of Port Dickson, reaffirming its commitment to environmental preservation. As part of its social corporate responsibility, Tourism Malaysia organized a beach clean-up and released baby turtles into the ocean near Lexis Hibiscus Port Dickson. This endeavor aims to raise awareness about turtle conservation and increase the survival rate of turtle hatchlings, aligning with the agency’s vision of responsible and sustainable tourism.

Dato’ Dr. Ammar Abd. Ghapar, Director-General of Tourism Malaysia, emphasized the symbolism of the event, stating, “The release of baby turtles signifies our hope for tourists to return to Malaysia repeatedly, just like the turtles that come back to the spot where they were born. It reflects our enduring commitment to providing a nurturing environment for tourists from all corners of the world.” Tourism Malaysia’s association with the turtle logo dates back to its inception, with the incorporation of the Tourist Development Corporation (TDC) in 1972, and the addition of the iconic turtle logo in 1986.

This logo serves as a tribute to the agency’s remarkable journey and achievements over the years, marking its steadfast dedication to promoting Malaysia as a premier tourist destination. The conservation efforts are part of the ongoing initiative by the Department of Fisheries at Port Dickson Ornamental Fish Centre, which aims to protect and preserve the endangered Green Turtle and Hawksbill Turtle species. The initiative also seeks to educate the public about the crucial role turtles play in marine ecosystems and the significance of safeguarding Malaysia’s marine biodiversity.

The social corporate responsibility program by Tourism Malaysia coincides with the Package Development Division’s 2024 – 2026 Strategic Workshop, taking place in Port Dickson from 3rd to 5th August 2023. The workshop brings together industry experts, government officials, and conservationists to chart holistic strategies for the upcoming years, leading up to Visit Malaysia Year 2026.

The collective expertise and vision of the participants will play a pivotal role in shaping the tourism landscape, with a focus on niche tourism segments and enhancing the overall travel experience for both local and international tourists. By integrating conservation efforts and sustainable practices, Tourism Malaysia is paving the way for a brighter and greener future for the nation’s tourism industry.
