IPOH, August 31 – Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has assured that the government will seek additional funding for the maintenance of police residences nationwide in the upcoming budget. He stated that currently only about 40 to 60 percent of police accommodations are in a habitable condition while the rest are in an unsafe state. “For police housing, I don’t need to ask whether it’s suitable or not; I already know. So, God willing, in the Madani budget to be presented this October, I will try to secure additional funding for police housing.

Our main goal here is housing, and we will allocate funds immediately to address the basic needs, while the others will be addressed later,” he said. Anwar made this announcement during a speech at a gathering with residents and families of the PGA Northern Brigade in Ulu Kinta on Thursday. Present at the event were Perak Chief Minister Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad, Deputy Minister of Home Affairs Datuk Seri Dr. Shamsul Anuar Nasarah, Perak Police Chief Datuk Seri Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri, and PGA Northern Brigade Commander Senior Assistant Commissioner Nordin Manan.

Anwar, who is also the Finance Minister, stated that this commitment is based on the nation’s confidence in its ability to achieve high profits through investments from major corporations, including those owned by Elon Musk and the Chinese automotive company Zhejiang Geely Holding Group Co Ltd (Geely). He also mentioned that German semiconductor company Infineon Technologies AG recently decided to invest approximately RM20 billion in Malaysia.

“If there were no investments, I wouldn’t be able to announce additional allocations because there would be no income. This is the framework that we need to understand,” he added. In July of last year, Anwar announced an additional allocation of RM150 million for the maintenance of facilities under the Ministry of Home Affairs (KDN) in an effort to ensure the comfort of national security personnel.
