KUALA LUMPUR, September 6 – Attorney General, Tan Sri Idrus Harun, has been urged to provide an open explanation to the public regarding the factors that led to the High Court of Kuala Lumpur’s decision to release Deputy Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, without acquitting him. According to the Secretary-General of the DAP, Anthony Loke, the party respects the court process and decision, but for the sake of justice and accountability, an explanation is necessary.

He stated that the DAP acknowledges the critical views expressed by various parties and the public regarding the High Court of Kuala Lumpur’s decision to release without acquittal (DNAA) Ahmad Zahid in 47 cases. “This explanation is important to ensure the confidence of the public and the international community in the country’s legal system is always upheld. “DAP will also continue to uphold the principle of the separation of powers among the judiciary, executive, and legislative branches, ensuring no executive interference in any court case,” he said in a statement early on Tuesday.

On Monday, the High Court of Kuala Lumpur released Ahmad Zahid without acquitting him from 47 charges of breach of trust, corruption, and money laundering involving funds from Yayasan Akalbudi, which he had founded. Judge Datuk Collin Lawrence Sequerah released Ahmad Zahid without acquittal after allowing the Deputy Public Prosecutor, Datuk Mohd Dusuki Mokhtar, to inform the Attorney General’s Chambers’ decision to discontinue all proceedings against him at this stage.
