NANNING, September 22 – Malaysia’s involvement in the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) does not imply that Malaysia is reducing its focus on other regions such as the United States, Europe, India, and Australia, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. Instead, he stated that Malaysia will continue to enhance its attention to these countries during a press conference on Sunday.

Anwar, who is also the Finance Minister, explained that Malaysia takes a more pragmatic approach because China is a strong economy with significant investments. “Furthermore, China’s bilateral trade with Malaysia has been the highest for 14 consecutive years,” he said during his working visit here to attend the 20th China-ASEAN Expo (CAEXPO). China has been Malaysia’s largest trading partner for 14 consecutive years, with trade valued at US$110.62 billion (US$1=RM4.68).
