KUALA LUMPUR, November 17 – The Ministry of Health (MOH) has initiated a survey aimed at collecting feedback and opinions from the public regarding the Generational Endgame (GEG) initiative, which seeks to prohibit the sale of tobacco and smoking products to individuals born on or after January 1, 2007. The GEG policy will not impact current smokers or vapers but will effectively create a generation of Malaysians who are shielded from nicotine addiction and the adverse consequences of smoking products throughout their lives.

GEG is a key component of the forthcoming Control of Tobacco Products for Public Health Bill 2023, which is in the finalization stages. The bill’s objective is to establish comprehensive regulations covering all forms of smoking products, including electronic cigarettes and vape. The current regulations, as outlined in the Control of Tobacco Products Regulations (CTPR) 2004, exclusively govern tobacco-based smoking products. The Health Minister, YB Dr. Zaliha Mustafa, stated, The GEG provision is a bold and ambitious piece of legislation with the potential to make a significant contribution to reducing tobacco use and smoking-related diseases and deaths in Malaysia.

This is how we will protect our youth, loved ones, and those around us from the dangers of smoking by preventing addiction in the first place. She further emphasized, “I encourage all Malaysians to take a few minutes to complete the survey. It is essential for everyone to play a role and support the government’s efforts in presenting this Bill and the GEG provision by exercising their rights through this survey and available media channels. The survey is open to all Malaysians and can be accessed through the MySejahtera app, starting from today through an app update that can be downloaded from the Google Play Store for Android and the Apple App Store for iOS.
