KUALA LUMPUR, October 26 – Canon Marketing Malaysia, in collaboration with multiple stakeholders, is proud to announce the successful conclusion of its nationwide tree-planting campaign, “One Canon One Tree.” To commemorate National Environment Day, celebrated on October 21, Canon achieved the planting of 500 trees at Paya Indah Wetlands (PIW), Dengkil, demonstrating their commitment to environmental stewardship and community engagement. The initiative brought together more than 120 dedicated staff from Canon, Canon MailCom Malaysia, and Canon Medical Systems Malaysia.
This collaborative environmental effort included partnerships with the Selangor State Department of Environment (DOE Selangor), Rakan Alam Sekitar UiTM Student Chapter (RAS UiTM SC), and Paya Indah Wetlands (PIW). Since 2016, “One Canon One Tree” has consistently planted trees, exceeding 9,000 trees planted to date. This year’s campaign marks a significant milestone as Canon expanded its tree-planting efforts nationwide. The company proactively collaborated with local organizations across Malaysia, including Penang, Johor, Pahang, Sabah, and Sarawak, amplifying its positive impact on communities nationwide and its commitment to giving back to the regions where it operates.
These tree-planting activities serve multiple purposes, such as fostering biodiversity, improving air quality, and creating urban mini rainforests, all aligning with the government’s initiative to plant 100 million trees by 2025. Speaking about the event, Shunji Yoshikai, President and CEO of Canon Marketing Malaysia, stated, As we plant 500 trees in Paya Indah Wetlands, we celebrate the successful conclusion of this year’s tree-planting initiative and our unwavering commitment to environmental conservation. These trees, including native fruit-bearing species, will attract diverse wildlife to PIW, enhancing the wetlands’ ecosystem and biodiversity.
This initiative wouldn’t have been possible without the invaluable collaboration with DOE Selangor, RAS UiTM SC, PIW, and our Canon affiliate companies, united by our philosophy of ‘Kyosei. Nor Aziah Jaafar, Director of the Selangor State Department of Environment, emphasized the importance of such private partnerships. She said, “National Environment Day serves as a meaningful backdrop, underscoring the importance of raising awareness about environmental issues and inspiring positive change. We believe that the seeds of change are sown not just in the soil but in the hearts and minds of our fellow Malaysians.
Private partnerships like this program with Canon are instrumental in amplifying our aim to promote environmental education far and wide, creating a platform for all of us to unite in our appreciation of this precious land we call home. Under the guiding principle of “Imaging for Good,” Canon is committed to creating a sustainable society in alignment with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) while spreading smiles along the way.
