GEORGE TOWN, November 3 — YB Wong Hon Wai, the Tourism & Creative Economy EXCO and Chairman of the Penang Convention and Exhibition Bureau, visited the construction site of the Penang Waterfront Convention Centre. This upcoming project, developed by IJM, holds the promise of transforming Penang’s tourism landscape. The Penang Waterfront Convention Centre is set to become a significant addition to the region’s offerings, with plans for a 6000-person capacity convention centre, a 5-star hotel, and a shopping mall. Anticipated to be completed by mid-2025, the centre is already generating substantial interest with multiple bookings in advance.
The strategic location of the facility, with waterfront views and excellent connectivity to the bridge, airport, and Penang Hill via the Air Itam bypass, positions it as a potential game-changer for the convention business. Wong Hon Wai’s visit underlines the commitment to boosting Penang’s tourism industry and attracting international visitors through conferences and exhibitions. The Penang Waterfront Convention Centre’s development reflects a growing trend in the region’s hospitality and event industry and underscores the value of such projects in advancing Penang’s status as a tourist destination.
