KUALA LUMPUR, November 11 – Malaysia’s National Energy Transition Roadmap (NETR) isn’t just about achieving low carbon emissions; it’s a strategic move to revolutionize and transform the country’s economy for the future. Natural Resources, Environment, and Climate Change Minister Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad emphasized that NETR is crucial for ensuring Malaysia remains competitive in an ever-changing world economy.
Speaking at the “Rethinking the Future of Sustainability” conference, Minister Nik Nazmi highlighted that NETR aims to mitigate greenhouse gas emissions and transition Malaysia into a low-carbon energy economy. He pointed out that the government has recently passed the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Act to regulate and promote energy efficiency and conservation practices in both the public and private sectors.
The roadmap focuses on harnessing emerging technologies like electric vehicles and renewable energy solutions to achieve ambitious sustainability goals. During the conference, several agreements were signed, including partnerships to develop odour sensor technology and tackle food waste through renewable natural gas systems. These initiatives reflect the government’s commitment to innovation and environmental sustainability as it charts a new course for Malaysia’s future economy.
