KUALA LUMPUR, November 14 — Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) has issued a public advisory, urging individuals to prioritize electrical safety during the Northeast Monsoon season, expected to last from today until March next year. Wan Seri Rahayu Wan Mohamad Said, the acting head of Group Corporate Communications at TNB, emphasized the importance of prudent use of electrical equipment, especially in flood-prone areas. With continuous heavy rain predicted in several states, the risk of floods in low-lying areas is high.

TNB advises residents to follow authorities’ instructions if evacuation is necessary and to contact TNB CareLine at 15454 or through Facebook TNB Careline for immediate action in case of disconnected or collapsed installations. Wan Seri Rahayu outlined various safety measures to be taken before, during, and after floods. Pre-flood measures include moving electrical equipment to higher levels. During floods, individuals are advised to ensure the main switch is closed to avoid electric shock, avoid touching submerged electrical equipment or cables, and stay away from iron poles or TNB installations in water to prevent the risk of electric shock.

After a flood, turning off the main electrical switch before cleaning electrical equipment is recommended. TNB emphasizes its readiness to manage electricity supply effectively during potential flood disasters. In addition to these precautions, Wan Seri Rahayu suggested charging mobile phone power banks in advance for communication, turning off solar PV systems before leaving, and having registered electrical contractors check submerged equipment post-flood. TNB aims to maintain an orderly and effective electricity supply management system in the face of potential flood-related challenges.
