PUTRAJAYA, November 14 — The Malaysian government has allocated RM725.7 million for the implementation of the Flood Mitigation Plan (Rancangan Tebatan Banjir or RTB) to address flood-related issues in the Dengkil to Labohan Dagang areas, according to the Minister of Natural Resources, Environment, and Climate Change, Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad. The RTB project, categorized under the High Priority Flood Mitigation (Tebatan Banjir Berkeutamaan Tinggi or TBBT), will be executed in Phase 1 and Phase 2 of Sungai Langat to protect approximately 120,000 residents from the impact of floods.

Currently, the Phase 1 of the RTB project in Sungai Langat is in the land acquisition process and is expected to be completed by 2027, while Phase 2 is scheduled to commence in January 2024 and be completed by 2030. Nik Nazmi emphasized the long-term nature of the RTB project as a crucial flood prevention measure. He highlighted that for short-term actions, the maintenance frequency of drainage systems in the affected areas has been increased. This announcement comes in the wake of recent flooding on November 5, affecting several areas due to continuous heavy rain for an hour.

Affected areas included Kampung Sungai Buah, Kampung Jenderam Hilir, Kampung Cemperai, Kampung Seri Tanjung, Taman Delima, Kampung Orang Asli Sungai Melut, Persimpangan FT29/FT32, and the quarters of Ayamas Sdn Bhd in Taman Warisan Suria.
