PUTRAJAYA, November 16 – In recent times, the National Registration Department (Jabatan Pendaftaran Negara or JPN) has observed several social media accounts, particularly on Facebook, attempting to deceive the public by offering paid services to obtain identification documents issued by the department. These unscrupulous entities manipulate social media platforms to entrap and deceive the public, especially newly arrived foreigners unfamiliar with the official procedures for obtaining identification documents in Malaysia.
The created pages/accounts use official JPN posters and images, widely available on the internet, to portray themselves as legitimate accounts for transactions. Investigations reveal that the syndicate’s modus operandi begins with posting services to manage JPN applications on Facebook for a specified fee. These posts have a short lifespan and are subsequently deleted to avoid detection by authorities. The department takes a stringent stance against such immoral actions. In addition to regularly sharing warning posters related to these scammers on its official social media, the Investigation and Enforcement Division of JPN continuously monitors and investigates social media pages or accounts attempting to deceive the public by using the JPN name and offering fraudulent services.
The public is urged not to be easily deceived by any party offering services related to JPN transactions, especially those imposing fees. Social media users are encouraged to report any suspicious pages that contradict the community guidelines of the respective social media platform to prevent more people from falling victim to such scams. JPN emphasizes that there are no authorized agents or intermediaries representing the department for any transactions and services. Individuals are advised to visit any of the 212 JPN offices for information on application procedures or advisory services.
