GEORGE TOWN, November 26 – Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow announced today that civil servants in the state will receive a half-month bonus, with a minimum guaranteed amount of RM1,000. This decision comes in the wake of the state tabling a deficit budget for the year 2023. A total of 3,867 civil servants in Penang are set to benefit from this bonus, which will be disbursed in December.
The allocated budget for this bonus amounts to RM6,045,815.65, with the minimum bonus being slightly less than the RM1,200 granted under the 2023 Budget. Chow Kon Yeow shared this information during the presentation of the state’s 2024 Budget at the legislative assembly. Additionally, as part of the budget allocations, the state will provide cash aid totaling RM1,005,600 to Kafa teachers, religious school teachers, Tahfiz teachers, and staff of private Chinese schools, with each recipient receiving RM300. This is in line with the state’s ongoing support for educational institutions and personnel.
Notably, this cash aid is an increase from the RM900,000 allocated under the 2023 Budget, where aid ranged between RM200 and RM300 for the mentioned categories of teachers and staff. The half-month bonus and cash aid initiatives are part of Penang’s commitment to supporting its civil servants and educators, acknowledging their contributions and dedication to public service.
