PUTRAJAYA, December 2 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim addressed concerns about the National Digital Identity, or Digital ID, emphasizing that worries regarding leaked personal and banking records or implanted chips are baseless. Anwar, also the finance minister, urged people to embrace digital transformation and acknowledged that technological progress is essential for the country’s development. He reassured the public that personal banking details would not be released, dismissing fears of implanted chips as influenced by Hollywood movies.

Speaking to reporters after becoming the first individual in the country to register with Digital ID, Anwar encouraged civil servants to register voluntarily. While emphasizing that registration is not mandatory at the moment, he highlighted that Rahmah Cash Aid (STR) and targeted subsidies will be directed through Digital ID in the future. Anwar recommended listening to explanations from the Ministry of Science, Technology, and Innovation (Mosti) and the Ministry of Communications and Digital (KKD) before making judgments, underlining the importance of not undermining public confidence.

Digital ID serves as a secure platform for digital identification and user verification, benefiting both public and private sectors in online transactions. Anwar clarified that Digital ID complements rather than replaces the MyKad system, offering a trusted and secure solution to verify identities and prevent fraud in online transactions.
