KUALA LUMPUR, December 10 — The Content Forum has partnered with local and global entities, including retailers, business organizations, e-commerce platforms, and advertising associations, to combat harmful alcohol consumption. This collaboration is part of the Global Standards Coalition initiated by the International Alliance for Responsible Drinking (IARD), a consortium of major global beer, wine, and spirits producers. The coalition aims to drive initiatives that promote moderation, prevent sales to underage or intoxicated individuals, and elevate industry standards to reduce the harmful use of alcohol.

In alignment with this global effort, The Content Forum reaffirms its commitment to practical standards, industry trends, and consumer interests. CEO Mediha Mahmood states, “Our support aligns with the Content Code’s provisions, enhanced in 2022 to provide a comprehensive framework for the advertising of intoxicating liquor.” The Content Forum, eager to contribute to the initiative, emphasizes considering local nuances and fostering responsible practices in the industry, actively supporting initiatives that positively impact Malaysian society.

As part of its commitment, The Content Forum highlights the enhanced provisions in the Content Code, revamped in 2022, which broadens the framework and guidelines for advertising intoxicating liquor. Advertisements must comply with specific criteria, including featuring individuals above 21, avoiding the promotion of excessive consumption, and refraining from exploiting vulnerable groups. The Code emphasizes responsible drinking messages and ensures that advertisements are not targeted at Muslims or anyone below 21.
