BATU KAWAN, December 16 – Western Digital has taken a significant step towards achieving its renewable energy goals by partnering with Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) in Malaysia. Through its subsidiary, TNB Renewables Sdn. Bhd, TNB will work with Western Digital to implement renewable energy solutions in the company’s Malaysian operations. The collaboration is formalized through the signing of the Corporate Green Power Agreement (CGPA) under the Corporate Green Power Program (CGPP), marking Western Digital’s first long-term green energy partnership in Malaysia.
Dato’ Bock Kim Lee, Senior Vice President, Global Flash Backend Operations, Western Digital, emphasized the importance of this collaboration, stating, “This is an important milestone for Western Digital to help achieve our ambitious target of running our global operations on 100% renewable energy by 2030 and further reinforces our company’s core commitment to sustainability.” The CGPA involves the acquisition of renewable energy from TNB Renewables Sdn. Bhd, which will construct a new solar power generation facility in Kedah to supply 25% of Western Digital’s energy needs across three operations sites in Malaysia.
This partnership aligns with Western Digital’s global efforts, as the company has previously entered into long-term renewable energy agreements in other countries. TNB Renewables, known for its commitment to providing competitively priced renewable energy, aims to support industries in adopting sustainable practices and cleaner energy consumption. The collaboration between Western Digital and TNB demonstrates a shared commitment to achieving net-zero emissions and fostering a sustainable energy landscape in Malaysia and beyond.
