KUALA LUMPUR, December 27 – PETRONAS Suriname E&P B.V., a subsidiary of PETRONAS, has officially inked Production Sharing Contracts for offshore Blocks 63 and 64 in Suriname. Securing these blocks during the Suriname Demerara Bid Round 2022-2023 in June 2023 positions PETRONAS Suriname E&P strategically in the Guyana-Suriname Basin. Block 63, spanning 5,425 sq km and situated approximately 200 km offshore Suriname, sees PETRONAS Suriname E&P as the sole participant and operator in water depths of about 1,700 meters.
Meanwhile, Block 64, covering 6,262 sq km and located 250 km from the shore, will be operated by TotalEnergies with a 40 per cent participating interest, the rest split evenly between PETRONAS Suriname E&P and QatarEnergy. Mohd Redhani Abdul Rahman, PETRONAS Vice President of Exploration, highlighted the significance of these acquisitions in unlocking Suriname’s vast resource potential. He stated, “This underscores the aspiration to build our presence in the country and strengthen our international portfolio, especially in the Americas.”
PETRONAS Suriname E&P is actively engaged in the region, with existing operations in Block 52 in partnership with ExxonMobil and full ownership of Block 48. Additionally, the company holds a 30 per cent participating interest in Block 53, collaborating with CEPSA Suriname and APA Suriname Corporation LDC. These contracts mark a strategic move by PETRONAS to expand its foothold and contribute significantly to the energy landscape in Suriname and the broader Americas region.
