KUALA LUMPUR, December 24 — The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has reportedly seized Ilham Tower, a property owned by former Finance Minister Tun Daim Zainuddin. The action was taken after Daim failed to disclose financial details and assets as requested by MACC. Despite seeking extensions and clarification on the reasons for the asset declaration request, Daim did not comply promptly. Sources revealed that the MACC denied his extension request in early December, leading to the seizure of Ilham Tower.
The MACC has issued a seizure order, gaining control of the property on paper. In May, the MACC initiated investigations into several business figures, including former senior ministers, regarding the alleged embezzlement of national funds totaling RM2.3 billion. The Ilham Tower is a 60-storey building located near the Kuala Lumpur City Centre and the Petronas Twin Towers. It houses the Ilham Gallery and the Element Kuala Lumpur hotel. Ownership records indicate that the building is owned by Ilham Tower Sdn Bhd, a subsidiary of Ilham Baru Sdn Bhd, a private company controlled by Daim’s wife Na’imah Abdul Khalid and his two sons, Mohammed Amin Zainuddin and Muhammed Amir Zainuddin.
