GEORGE TOWN, December 23 — Following the recent water supply disruption caused by a ruptured pipe at the bottom of Sungai Perai on December 19, MUDA Pulau Pinang acknowledges the efforts of the Penang Water Supply Corporation (PBAPP) in swiftly repairing the damage and restoring water supply to affected areas, particularly in the Southwest District.
While commending PBAPP’s dedication, MUDA Pulau Pinang expresses concerns about the recurrence of such incidents and recommends periodic inspections of aging pipes to identify maintenance needs. The suggestion includes replacing old pipes before conducting maintenance, ensuring a seamless transition in case of unforeseen disruptions, thus avoiding inconvenience to Penang’s residents.
MUDA Pulau Pinang also urges the State Government to devise alternative plans to address water supply disruptions scheduled for January 10 to 14, 2024. Relying solely on water tankers during this period may pose challenges for the public, especially small businesses and vendors, who would need to store water supplies for four days. To mitigate this impact, the State Government and PBAPP are encouraged to leverage modern technology for phased valve replacements, minimizing the inconvenience to Penang’s residents.
