GEORGE TOWN, December 26 – In the wake of the recent Sungai Perai underwater burst pipeline incident, Perbadanan Bekalan Air Pulau Pinang Sdn Bhd (PBAPP) has successfully restored water supply for 99% of the affected consumers in Daerah Barat Daya (DBD), Penang, as of 5:00 am on December 25, 2023. Despite this significant progress, PBAPP continues to work tirelessly to address “local issues” and restore water supply to approximately 1,000 consumers in seven specific neighborhoods, mainly in end-of-line (EoL) and higher ground areas.
The remaining challenges are concentrated in neighborhoods such as Hospital Balik Pulau, Tingkat Relau, Setia Sky Vista, Vista Condominium, Emerald Park, Sunway Cassia, and Flat Lily. While tanker teams are diligently delivering water to these areas, the outstanding water supply issues are primarily linked to internal reticulation (plumbing) systems within affected premises. PBAPP technicians are actively collaborating with management corporations and residents to expedite the resolution of these internal plumbing issues. Despite the commendable recovery efforts, PBAPP notes a surge in water consumption in DBD Penang over the last 72 hours.
This increase is attributed to the refilling of empty water tanks across residential, commercial, and industrial premises, coupled with pre-Christmas Day festivities. PBAPP emphasizes the need for understanding and cooperation from consumers who already have water supply in DBD, urging them to reduce water consumption to facilitate the full recovery of water supply services for the remaining affected neighborhoods. As PBAPP strives to resolve the final challenges and achieve complete recovery, the organization expresses gratitude for the patience and understanding of the affected residents throughout this period.
