PUTRAJAYA, January 5 — The collapse of a crane at Rawang train station three weeks ago was attributed to a contractor’s failure to adhere to safety procedures, announced Transport Minister Anthony Loke. The incident led to losses of RM2.4 million for Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTMB). The contractor’s negligence was highlighted as they failed to ensure a secure crane work area, allowing it to enter a restricted and unstable space, leading to the crane leaning on the track and the crane’s boom breaking. Inadequate use of steel plates also contributed to the incident. The disruption caused significant difficulties for KTMB, affecting train operations with over 20,000 ETS and Komuter passengers impacted.
