KUALA LUMPUR, January 13 – A Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) investigator testified in the High Court that former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak did not inform the Cabinet about two subsidiaries of 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) taking on debts through the issuance of bonds totaling US$3.5 billion in 2012. The bonds were issued by 1MDB Energy Limited and 1MDB Energy (Langat) Limited. The investigator highlighted that Najib, as the finance minister, did not bring the US$3.5 billion bond issuance to the Cabinet’s attention. Najib is facing trial over the misappropriation of over RM2.2 billion from 1MDB funds.
