GEORGE TOWN, January 10 – IR. Pathmanathan K., CEO of PBAHB and PBAPP, provides an update on the ongoing January 2024 Scheduled Water Supply Interruption (SWSI). The scheduled water works at the Sungai Dua Water Treatment Plant (WTP) are progressing as planned, with a 60% completion for one valve and 30% for the second. However, an issue has arisen at Sungai Perai due to the drop in water pressure during the shutdown.

This caused a dislodgment of the clamp installed on a leaking section of the underwater pipe in December 2023. PBAPP’s Emergency Response Team (ERT) is actively addressing the Sungai Perai issue, deploying 16 commercial divers to install a more secure clamp over a larger section of the leaking pipeline. Updates on Sungai Perai’s progress will be communicated via Facebook and mass media. Despite the challenges, PBAPP maintains its target to complete all works as scheduled by 6:00 am tomorrow (January 11, 2024), including the emergency response work at Sungai Perai.

The Stage 1 water supply recovery works are still planned to commence as scheduled, aiming for a swift resolution. PBAPP expresses gratitude for the ongoing efforts, emphasizing the commitment to completing the tasks accurately and on time. The team will work tirelessly through the night and early morning to ensure a successful and timely completion.
