KUALA LUMPUR, January 11 — Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil announced today that several agencies, including Digital Nasional Berhad (DNB), will be placed under the Digital Ministry. The decision was made by the Cabinet, marking the beginning of a realignment of key entities in the digital sector.

DNB, responsible for operating Malaysia’s 5G network, will be joined by the Malaysian Administrative Modernisation and Management Planning Unit (Mampu), Malaysian Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC), and Cybersecurity Malaysia in coming under the Digital Ministry. Fahmi clarified that the move is aimed at streamlining operations and ensuring a comprehensive approach to digital governance. The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) will continue to operate under Fahmi’s ministry.

The decision also involves the transfer of cybersecurity responsibilities from the Prime Minister’s Department to the Digital Ministry, emphasizing the importance of digital safety. Additionally, MIMOS, the national applied research and development center, will return to the Ministry of Science, Technology, and Innovation (MOSTI), with its digital ID function remaining under the Prime Minister’s Department. The realignment is part of the Cabinet’s efforts to optimize digital governance and strengthen Malaysia’s position in the digital landscape.
