KUALA LUMPUR, January 20 – The Malaysian government has not yet reached a decision on former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak’s request to instruct Netflix to take down the documentary “Man on the Run,” according to Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil. The minister mentioned that initial views from the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) had been conveyed but emphasized the need for careful consideration due to the ongoing court case related to 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB).

Najib’s lawyer had previously demanded the removal of the documentary, claiming it was sub judice and detrimental to Najib’s defense in the 1MDB trial. A meeting with the MCMC is planned to scrutinize legal aspects before any further announcements are made. Fahmi also expressed his intention to collaborate with MyCreative Ventures Group to identify local artists for producing special artworks that could serve as official gifts for the government.

He highlighted the significance of supporting local artists and suggested exploring the creation of unique pieces for special occasions. The move aligns with efforts to promote and appreciate the work of Malaysian artists through official gifts. The government’s stance on the Netflix documentary remains pending, pending legal considerations and discussions with relevant authorities, reflecting a cautious approach given the ongoing legal proceedings involving Najib Tun Razak.
