BINTULU, January 15 – In a recent statement, Malaysia’s Minister of Tourism, Arts, and Culture, Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing, highlighted the latent dangers associated with societal segregation and urged constant vigilance against elements that could foster division. Emphasizing the multi-ethnic nature of Malaysia, Tiong stressed the importance of mutual respect among individuals from diverse ethnic, social, and cultural backgrounds.
He cautioned against resorting to extreme measures to safeguard personal interests, particularly referencing an incident involving a suspected arson attack on the residence of DAP’s Bruas MP Datuk Ngeh Koo Ham, which was connected to Ngeh’s earlier statement on the inclusion of non-Muslim experts in a committee studying the harmonization of Shariah law with the Federal Constitution.
Tiong called for a thorough police investigation into the incident and underscored that intentional acts such as setting fires for ideological reasons should not be tolerated, demanding severe punishment for perpetrators. The Minister highlighted the need for unity, diversity, and harmony as foundational elements for national peace and prosperity. As Malaysia’s recovery progresses, Tiong affirmed the unity government’s commitment to prioritizing the well-being of its citizens while upholding values that embrace common ground and celebrate differences.
