KUALA LUMPUR, January 29 – Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has announced that the Chinese government is extending a scholarship program, offering 1,000 scholarships to Malaysian post-Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) students. The selected students will have the opportunity to undergo training in various fields in China, ranging from three months to one year, under the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI). The Chinese government will cover all expenses, including course fees, accommodation, and other related costs.
Students will only need to bear the cost of their airfares, with Majlis Amanah Rakyat (MARA) covering the return air tickets for Malaysian TVET students. This initiative aims to enhance cooperation in TVET and expose Malaysian students to cutting-edge fields such as artificial intelligence, electric vehicles, cyber security, and battery technology. Speaking at the launch of the Place & Train UTeM@KPT TVET program at Universiti Teknikal Malaysia Melaka (UTeM), Ahmad Zahid emphasized the importance of good management and political will in the complex TVET ecosystem.
He highlighted the need for collaboration between the government and educational institutions to focus on technological advancements in specific fields, ensuring Malaysia remains at the forefront of innovation. Ahmad Zahid expressed confidence that with attractive incentives such as premium salaries and added value, TVET would become a preferred choice for secondary school students, steering the country towards progress in fields like aerospace, shipbuilding, rail technology, robotics, and cyber security.
