KLANG, January 22 — Transport Minister Anthony Loke envisions Port Klang’s role as Malaysia’s first international cruise homeport as a catalyst for attracting foreign tourists and fostering the country’s economic growth. Loke emphasized the significance of having passengers embark and disembark from the same port, underscoring the tourism potential that encourages foreign visitors to explore Malaysia beyond the cruise experience. Loke highlighted the collaboration between the Ministry of Transport and the Ministry of Tourism, Arts, and Culture (Motac) to elevate Malaysia as a premier homeport destination.

He pointed to the Costa Serena cruise, which is strategically tapping into the halal market, making Malaysia an appealing destination for culturally sensitive cruise tourism. Loke expressed support for such initiatives, emphasizing their alignment with the Madani Economy aspiration and the goals of Visit Malaysia Year 2026. Additionally, Loke revealed plans to promote Malaysia as a homeport for cruise liners at the upcoming World Cruise Conference in Miami, foreseeing lasting economic benefits and positive impacts on job creation, accommodation, dining, transportation, and retail sectors in the region.
