KUALA LUMPUR, January 23 – Former Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad has refuted claims suggesting that it is challenging to investigate individuals holding the title of “Tun.” Contrary to this notion, he emphasized that probing him is straightforward due to the government’s authority. Dr Mahathir clarified that it is more arduous to investigate the prime minister, deputy prime minister, or the head of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).
His remarks came in response to recent comments by Anwar Ibrahim, who asserted that investigating individuals with the title “Tun” or tycoons is more complicated than probing village heads or school teachers, without specifying any individuals. This discussion arises amid the MACC’s investigation into former Finance Minister Daim Zainuddin and the summoning of Mahathir’s son, Mirzan, in connection to financial matters revealed in the Pandora Papers and Panama Papers reports.
