KUALA LUMPUR, January 25 – Maxis has taken a significant step in promoting sustainability by integrating electric vehicles (EVs) into its field operations, making it a trailblazer among Malaysian telecommunications companies. The initial fleet includes six BYD Dolphin extended range vehicles, deployed by Maxis’ mobile and fiber operations teams in the Central and Northern regions.

This move reflects Maxis’ commitment to sustainable practices, reducing its carbon footprint, and contributing to a greener future. As part of its fleet refresh strategy, Maxis plans to gradually replace all two-wheel drive vehicles in metro and urban sites with EVs over the next five years, aligning with its broader efforts to address climate change. The company has also established solar-powered EV charging infrastructure at multiple Technical Operation Centres to support its growing EV fleet.

Abdul Karim Fakir bin Ali, Maxis Chief Network Officer, emphasized that the initiative not only enhances operational efficiency and reduces costs but also demonstrates the company’s dedication to positive change and global climate initiatives. This move follows a proof-of-concept trial conducted last year, and the success of the pilot program has propelled Maxis to expand its EV initiative in 2024.
