PAPAR, February 9 – In anticipation of the Chinese New Year celebration on February 10, 2024, the government will implement the Maximum Price Scheme for the Chinese New Year Celebration 2024, effective from February 6 to February 14, 2024. The implementation period covers 9 days, including 4 days before the celebration, the celebration day itself, and 4 days after the celebration. A total of 11 types of goods will be regulated under the Maximum Price Scheme for the Chinese New Year Celebration 2024.

The list of goods includes items such as white shrimp, white pomfret, live pig, pork (belly and meat), imported round cabbage, imported potatoes, garlic, old ginger, imported white radish, and red radish. The enforcement of the Maximum Price Scheme for the Chinese New Year Celebration 2024 will be carried out through the Price Control and Anti-Profiteering Act (AKHAP) 2011, allowing price determinations at the producer, wholesaler, and retailer levels. The Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security (KPKM) will conduct continuous monitoring to ensure the adequacy of the supply of goods. Price checks can be performed on the KPDN website at https://www.kpdn.gov.my.

KPDN Enforcement Officers nationwide will conduct continuous inspections and monitoring at strategic locations such as public markets, farmers’ markets, and shopping centers for celebration necessities. This approach enables more effective enforcement, and immediate actions can be taken against consumer complaints in case of non-compliance. Strict measures will be taken against any trader failing to comply with the regulations under this scheme through the Price Control and Anti-Profiteering Act 2011, and penalties may include fines or imprisonment for individuals, and fines for companies.
