GEORGE TOWN, February 6 — In response to a statement by YB Lim Guan Eng on Facebook, the Penang State Government issues a clarification regarding the figures associated with the Gurney Bay project. Contrary to the claim, Phase 1 of Gurney Bay does not carry a cost of RM247 million.
The accurate details are outlined as follows: the RM247 million represents the total expense for the comprehensive Gurney Bay project, covering both Phase 1 and 2. As of December 31, 2023, the State Government has disbursed only RM58 million for completed works, and the entire RM247 million will only be utilized upon the completion of all project components, expected by 2026. Additionally, the contractor holds responsibility for site damages for a period of two (2) years under the Damage Liability Period, ensuring accountability and transparency in the development process.
This clarification is pivotal in addressing any misconceptions and providing precise information about the financial aspects of the Gurney Bay project. The Penang State Government reiterates its commitment to transparent communication and accurate representation of significant development initiatives, fostering trust and understanding among the public.
