PERMATANG PAUH, February 18 — Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil clarified that the Cabinet has not yet delved into discussions regarding subsidies for certain goods that may also benefit foreign nationals. Fahmi emphasized the government’s commitment to ensuring that subsidy programs primarily benefit Malaysians in need. While addressing reporters at the Penang Entrepreneurs Connectivity and Development Empowerment Carnival, Fahmi highlighted that the matter has not been specifically addressed in Cabinet meetings thus far.

Regarding the case of 82-year-old Datuk Sarimah Ahmad, who urged a renowned producer to return original tapes of four films she produced 36 years ago, Fahmi expressed his intent to investigate the matter further. Recognizing the specificity of the issue between the parties involved, Fahmi pledged to reach out to the veteran actress personally to better understand the situation. Fahmi underscored the ministry’s efforts to safeguard the welfare of artists and crew members involved in film productions, directing the National Film Development Corporation Malaysia (Finas) to provide standardized contracts that outline benefits and ensure the well-being of all parties.
