GEORGE TOWN, February 22 – In response to reported farm discharge into Sungai Kulim, Penang, the Penang Water Supply Corporation (PBAPP) has conducted thorough water quality tests and found no significant impact on the treated water supplied to consumers in Penang. Jointly conducted with the Health Department of Penang, these tests ensure compliance with the Quality Assurance Programme parameters set by the Ministry of Health, Malaysia. Key parameters including Free Chlorine, E-Coli, Residual Chlorine + E. Coli, Turbidity (NTU), and Aluminium are monitored closely, with results over the past 10 days showing no major violations.
Despite Sungai Kulim’s significance as a raw water resource for refilling the Expanded Mengkuang Dam and supplying the Bukit Toh Allang Water Treatment Plant, PBAPP remains vigilant in monitoring water quality. The corporation’s Central Laboratory in Sungai Dua, a six-time recipient of the “IKM Excellence Award,” ensures precise and prompt reporting of any water quality issues detected. PBAPP emphasizes the importance of regulatory actions to safeguard Penang’s raw water resources and appreciates the efforts of the Penang State Government in addressing reported pollution incidents.
