BAYAN LEPAS, March 11 – In response to the article titled “Emulate Kedah’s speedy approval process” published by FMT on 20th February 2024, Penang State would like to provide clarification regarding the approval process for industrial projects in the state. Contrary to the statement attributed to NCIA’s Chief Executive Encik Harris Sultan, Penang emphasizes that industrial projects are allowed to commence construction work promptly once the Building Plan is submitted to the Councils and Early Commencement of Works (ECOW) is approved by the Councils’ One-Stop-Center meetings, which are convened every two weeks.

Over the past decade, Penang has demonstrated its commitment to facilitating industrial development, with the construction of more than 30 greenfield factories spanning over 10 acres of land in Batu Kawan Industrial Park & Penang Science Park. Notably, several facilities, including those with extensive cleanroom facilities, have been completed within 10 to 12 months from the submission of building plans to obtaining the certificate of completion and compliance.

InvestPenang spearheads a project implementation task force dedicated to tracking and assisting investors at every phase of their on-the-ground project implementation journey, aiming to streamline approvals and ensure timely completion. These efforts underscore Penang’s commitment to promoting the ease of doing business and fostering a conducive environment for industrial growth in the state.
