KUALA LUMPUR, March 1 — In response to allegations of sexual harassment involving national swimmers, Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh announced that the implicated coach has taken leave until investigations are concluded. Hannah emphasized the government’s commitment to ensuring the safety and rights of athletes, stating that appropriate action will be taken against the coach if found guilty.

The safeguarding officer of the National Sports Council (MSN) has initiated meetings with the affected athletes to address their concerns and uphold the Safe Sports code, implemented last year. While some athletes have expressed a desire for the coach to continue guiding them for the Paris Paralympic Games 2024, Hannah affirmed that MSN would assess the request carefully, prioritizing the safety of the athletes. Despite the coach’s long tenure and the athletes’ preference, Hannah emphasized the need to await the outcome of the ongoing police investigation before making any decisions.
