KUALA LUMPUR, April 1 – In a bid to assuage Sarawak’s apprehensions, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim voiced optimism today regarding the resolution of all issues surrounding the implementation of the Central Database Hub (Padu). Anwar’s remarks, made prior to his departure for the federal capital after a fast-breaking session at Masjid Al-Muttaqin, underscored the belief that concerns raised by the Sarawak state government could be amicably resolved following their communication with Putrajaya.

Despite Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg’s reservations over Padu’s data collection practices, particularly regarding the gathering of excessive personal information, Anwar highlighted the positive response from Sarawakians towards the initiative, signaling progress in addressing the state’s concerns ahead of the impending registration deadline. Anwar’s assurance of no extension to Padu’s registration period reflects a commitment to timely implementation, despite Abang Johari’s call for clarity on Padu’s objectives.

Anwar stressed the federal government’s dedication to addressing Sarawak’s security apprehensions and emphasized Padu’s noble purpose of optimizing aid resource distribution. As discussions between federal and state authorities continue, Anwar’s reassurance serves as a pivotal step towards fostering cooperation and understanding, crucial for the successful implementation of Padu in Sarawak and beyond.
