GEORGE TOWN, April 2 – Beginning April 8, Persons with Disabilities (OKU) will enjoy complimentary ferry rides between the Raja Tun Uda jetty in George Town and the Sultan Abdul Halim Shah jetty in Butterworth. This initiative, a collaborative effort between the Penang Port Commission (PPC) and Penang Port Sdn Bhd, aims to enhance accessibility for OKU individuals, as reported by Bernama. PPC Chairman Yeoh Soon Hin announced the implementation of this initiative during a media conference, highlighting that OKU individuals in all categories will be eligible for unlimited free ferry rides.

However, to avail themselves of this benefit, OKU individuals must first register at either terminal, whether on the island or the mainland. Yeoh emphasized the importance of registration, stating that applicants need to present their MyKad along with the OKU card issued by the social welfare department. This registration process ensures that OKU individuals can seamlessly access the free ferry service, enhancing their mobility and convenience. Penang Port Chief Executive Officer V Sasedharan echoed Yeoh’s sentiments, expressing hopes that this initiative will significantly improve the lives of OKU individuals by providing them with continued access to essential services.
